Sarcophaga Carnaria was conceived from a reflection on the plebiscite held in Colombia in 2016, in which the Colombian government asked citizens whether they approved the peace agreements with the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia). The image represents the reasoning behind my vote in favor of the accords.

Based on an understanding of nature as a whole, the signing of the peace agreements would allow the memories, energies, and all that remains of the fatal victims of the war to return to their territories—hand in hand with the peasants and Indigenous communities who will make the land bloom again and restore their connection with nature. Otherwise, these deaths would only bring more death, with their memories forever trapped in violence and the thirst for revenge.

In the image, the female figure—made from pantyhose and fertile soil—is a dual representation: on one hand, of Mother Nature, and on the other, of the thousands of women who have been victims of the conflict. The peace agreement places special emphasis on these women, promoting their inclusion in economic and social processes from which they were previously mere spectators, turning them into active agents of change. Surrounding this figure, a plant resembling a vine both suffocates her and gives her life.
